Real Valladolid: Anuar Tuhami (29’)
Real Madrid: Raphael Varane (34’), Karim Benzema (51’p) (59’), Luka Modric (85’)
We all know Real Madrid are in crisis mode and when they visited Valladolid, it almost became another nightmare for them. Inside the first 20 minutes, the hosts were phenomenal, attacking Los Blancos fearlessly. In the 12th minute, Odriozola gave away a penalty to the hosts but Alcaraz skied it.
Just minutes later, Guardiola received a good ball from Keko, the former finished it neatly but upon consultation with VAR, it was disallowed. Valladolid saw another Guardiola goal disallowed, once again for offside. They were rolling and Real Madrid's defence was sleeping.
Finally they got their deserved lead through Anuar in the 29th minute. The lead was short lived as goalkeeper Masip hesitated to punch the ball offNacho and the ball fell to Varane, who finished it. The teams went in level at half time.
Pucela started well in the second half too but Real Madrid were just better in quality. Odriozola won a penalty and Benzema converted it for the second goal. Then, he made it 1-3 with a well-finished header from a Kroos corner kick. In the 82nd minute, Casemiro saw a second yellow (Red) which encouraged the hosts to push, but Luka Modric made a brilliant run and scored a sublime goal to seal the game for Real Madrid. It wasn’t a perfect night for the visitors but there were some good individual performances. Here are Real Madrid player ratings from the match.
Thibaut Courtois: 5.5/10
He could have conceded a handful of goals but was saved by VAR. Albeit, he wasn’t really a dominant figure. He made one save and only completed 2/16 long balls. He needs to do better.
Sergio Reguilon: 5.5/10
He was been among the few consistent performers for Real Madrid this season but he wasn’t at his best last night. Keko and Guardiola tested him properly and let’s just say Reguilon didn’t win.
Nacho Fernandez: 5.5/10
He hasn’t been performing good and yesterday, a team that had scored just 20 goals in their previous 26 league matches ran circles around him. He was caught off-guard on a number of counter-attacks. He had an assist to his name.
Raphael Varane: 6.5/10
In the first 30 mins, the entire defence was in shambles. It was taken apart but gradually, they improved as Varane grew into the game and imposed himself. He got the opening goal. He made 3 important clearances, won 5/7 duels and delivered 4/5 accurate long balls.
Alvaro Odriozola: 6/10
Odriozola either starts or isn’t even a part of the match-day squad. He started yesterday, he was really good while attacking, but was a tad inconsistent while defending. His pace to win the penalty was extraordinary. But he also gave away a penalty (it didn’t result in anything though). He won 4/5 tackles, delivered one key pass and won 9/13 duels.
Toni Kroos: 7/10
Kroos has been fatigued and has been a bit inconsistent. It was better performance from the German who looked determined as the game progressed. He provided an assist from a corner to Benzema. He made 4 key passes, overall 95% pass accuracy and won 4/6 duels. He was yet again substituted out for Fede.
He was lost and nowhere to be seen when the hosts attacked. By the way, he got his first ever senior career Red Card- and it was a ridiculous way to get it. He won 10 duels, but overall a disappointing performance from the Brazilian.
Luka Modric: 8/10
The Croatian was highly motivated and was among the best players on the pitch. He was attacking, tracking back and even scored a match-winning goal. He too, like others started badly but regained control of the midfield. He had 86% pass accuracy and completed 7/8 dribbles.
Dani Ceballos: 6/10
He functioned on the left side in an attacking position. Recorded 97% pass accuracy, but overall had a quiet game. However, he could have scored from a good Asensio ball, but didn’t.
Karim Benzema: 8.5/10
He recorded 2 goals and an assist. First a penalty, then a neat header and also linked up well with Modric for the final goal. He was clearly the Man of the Match. He had 92% pass accuracy, 2 key passes and 5 shots.
Marco Asensio: 6/10
He too had a quiet night, didn’t influence the game much. He had just one shot, 1 dribble and 2 key passes.
Fede Valverde: 6/10
Once again, came in for Kroos. Played 16 minutes; made 9/0/ passes.
Played just 2 minutes.
Jesus Vallejo: N/A
Played just 2 minutes.
