Liverpool host Barcelona at Anfield in the second leg of UEFA Champions League semifinals
Having already won the La Liga title and with the Copa del Rey finals against Valencia remaining, Barcelona will be confident of completing a treble by winning the Champions League. Most of their key player were rested in the 2-0 loss to Celta Vigo in preparation for the game at Anfield. Liverpool, however, had to fight until the dying minutes of the game against Newcastle to get a win, keeping their hopes of a Premier League title alive. But with the absence of key players, Liverpool’s chances look slim.
Mohamed Salah was taken off on a stretcher after suffering a head injury against Newcastle, and will most likely not feature against Barcelona. Roberto Firmino and Naby Keita are set to miss out as well through injuries.
The entire first team was rested during the weekend’s loss, and Ernesto Valverde will have a full squad to choose from. The only casualty will be Ousmane Dembele who suffered a hamstring injury over the weekend.
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Gomez, van Dijk, Robertson; Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Henderson; Shaqiri, Mane, Origi
Ter Stegen; Roberto, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Busquets, Rakitic, Vidal; Messi, Coutinho, Suarez
SCORE PREDICTION: Liverpool 2 – 2 Barcelona
Liverpool’s hopes of making a comeback in this tie would have taken a serious blow following the injuries to their key players, but they will be prepared to fight until the end. It is unlikely that either side will keep a clean sheet in a match of this magnitude. In the end, both sides will have to share the spoils, but Barcelona will be the ones heading into the finals.
