Diego Godin was a major doubt for this game due to injury but has been declared fit. He could be a game-time decision. Juventus will look to exploit the Madrid back line. Atletico is still very strong with Stefan Savic most probably stepping in place of the Godin if need be. Max Allegri will have to set his team up cleverly to upheaval an Atletico side which goes into the tie leading 2-0 on aggregate. With all this in mind, let us look at 3 key battles that might decide the tie.
#3 Morata vs Bonucci
Morata seems to have found his footing back home in Madrid, scoring 3 goals in the last 2 games. He will look to continue this form and get on the scoresheet against his former club. He will have to be at the top of his game if he wants to get anything beyond the Juventus back four, and his biggest obstacle will be in the form of Leonardo Bonucci. The Italian defender has been excellent for Juventus this season and he will have to be solid in the back to stop Morata getting through on goal, and prevent his side from conceding any more.
#2 Mandzukic vs Godin
Mandzukic was not really effective in the previous tie, but with the need for goals, Mandzukic will look to get the better of Godin in a bid to get Juventus back in the tie. Godin, on the other hand, has to be on his A-game as Juventus will throw everything they have at the Atletico backline. It is going to be interesting to see how confidently Godin can defend against Mandzukic who is a physical and intelligent striker.
#1 Ronaldo vs Gimenez
These two have faced off against each other a number of times during Ronaldo’s time at Real Madrid, and never has it disappointed. Having helped his team out with a goal in the previous fixture, he will have to be defensively sound this time to prevent Ronaldo from working his magic. Rolando will give his everything in an attempt to get Juventus across the line and no one doubts in his ability to do so, especially not the Atletico defenders. Gimenez will have to step up in the absence of Godin and a mouth-watering battle between the two is imminent.
