Manchester United travel to Barcelona for the second of the UEFA Champions League quarterfinals
A heavily rotated Barca side could only stutter to a draw in the weekend vs Huesca while the English giants managed to scrape past West Ham. This tie is by no means decided even though Barcelona have a promising record at home. Manchester United have already shocked Juve and PSG away from home, which suggests that they have it in them to pull off an upset. We will now take a look at a bit of team news, probable lineups and try to predict the score line.
Ernesto Valverde rested his core group of players such as Leo Messi, Suarez, Busquets and Rakitic, keeping in mind the 2nd leg. They will surely return to the starting lineup barring any last minute injuries. Ousmane Dembele could also be thrown into the mix if he is fit enough.
Luke Shaw is the only player confirmed to miss the game through suspension. A host of players could return to the starting lineup such as Marcus Rashford, Scott McTominay and Victor Lindelof. It remains to be seen who takes Shaw’s place in LB. Marcos Rojo wasn’t quite impressive enough against West Ham to get a starting ticket. Matteo Darmian may be called or simply, Young could switch to LB while Dalot slots in at RB.
Manchester United (4-3-3):
De Gea; Dalot, Smalling, Lindelof, Young; Pogba, McTominay, Fred; Martial, Rashford, Lukaku;
Ter Stegen; Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Alba; Arthur, Busquets, Rakitic; Messi, Suarez, Coutinho;
PREDICTED SCORE: Barcelona 2 - 1 Manchester United
After registering zero shots on target in the 1st leg, Manchester United will need the mother of all miracles to overturn the deficit and tie in their favor. Barca seemingly played at 2nd gear and strolled around Old Trafford but they might turn up the heat given how they crashed out at this stage thrice in the last 3 seasons. That goal for United might just be far-fetched optimism and it’d be wise to put your bets on the Catalans to progress into the semi-finals.
